Welcome, platformer! You want to know the background to Jet Set Willy? Read on...As we all know, or at least those of us who have Seen and Played, Miner Willy accidentally discovered some old and strange mines, so he went exploring (in ‘Manic Miner’) and ended up very rich. Having now joined the ‘jet set’ (think about it), he bought a large house and then went and threw a party. Now, after the party, his housekeeper is refusing to let him get some sleep until the house is tidied up...So it's up to you to guide him around the house collecting all the litter. Only when this is done can he get to his bed.No, the ‘attic bug’ is not in this version.Having successfully completed this, you may like to try ‘Jet Set Willy 2’ (subtitled ‘The Final Frontier’). Here's the text as printed on the cassette inlay...Whilst recovering in hospital from a severe fall down some stairs, Willy called in the builders. He thought it odd that they had green skin, but needing the work done in a hurry he asked them to remove the offending edges from the stairs. Trouble was, they did far more work than asked, adding several rooms to his mansion and then refusing to charge him!! Maria is demanding that Willy clears up the mess and he hasn't even found all the rooms yet. Who were these strange people? Why did they need to add a Rocket Room to Willy's already substantial house? Much patience and stamina is required to explore the extended house and NASA's “Guide to Simple Space Travel” is recommended reading for those foolhardy enough to help Willy clear up all the mess. Be careful in the sewers and watch out for the bell ringer in the Belfry! Good Luck!!So there you go. And don't worry if a few rooms seem impossible... they're not.If you're interested, this was inspired by a conversion by M. Edwards (where's the sunbeam in your conversion of Manic Miner?). Unfortunately that conversion (I have v1.2) has a few LARGE snags... there are no ropes, teleports or support for diagonally-moving monsters, and it can crash if you try to have more than 75 rooms and don't give it more memory. Plus I wanted a multitasking editor anyway!I suppose that, having read this far, you might want to see some of the game itself. Demo mode coming up...
